One disadvantage is the speed of getting results. With direct advertising, response can be quite quick. However, you have to pay for them, which could be a problem when you first start. However, writing articles is free, (though there can be costs with distribution see my next article). When you write, you should aim to give your reader a feel for you as a person, rather like having a favourite columnist in your daily newspaper. In traditional MLM they talk about approaching your warm market who, know, like and trust you. But on the Internet the reader cannot see your body language or hear the tone of your voice. They can only go by the cold black and white of how you tap your keyboard. Becoming known, liked and trusted may take a number of articles. How comfortable you are with writing can be an advantage or disadvantage. You might consider revisiting articles that you liked best. Did the author use humour? Did they tell personal stories to emphasise points? Were they just direct with giving information? Whatever it was that appealed to you will no doubt appeal to others. If it was humour for example, try to use humour too, but do not use the same jokes and avoid re-writing their article. Myself being British we use a lot of self-depreciating humour but Ive never been very good at it! You can find professional sites that write articles for you, but beware that they will be writing for other too, so you might not have very much uniqueness. Ive never used them so I cant recommend any. One of the main advantages of articles is that you can potentially reach an enormous amount of targeted people that could cost a lot with advertising. If your article is published, it could be picked up by others for their ezines, newsletters, blogs and so on. They then promote it through their own mailing lists or promotion of their own websites. Your articles get distributed by their efforts and at their expense with your name and links attached. Furthermore, your articles may remain in those places long after all the paid adverts have disappeared, having your links pointing back to your sales page. I know someone who is still earning from articles he wrote 7 years ago. As such, it may be worth considering taking out your own domain name and having traffic to it redirected to your sales web-page. If for some reason you have to change the business you are promoting in a year or two then the traffic to your domain name can be redirected to your new sales page, rather than having all those articles already published pointing at a web sales page that is defunct. |
