In 1936, the depression was in full swing. It was a dark time for The United States. People had always struggled to get ahead, but now had to face struggles of a different kind; people were struggling just to survive. The United States needed something to rally around, and that something was Seabiscuit. Seabiscuit is the true story of a horse and jockey who in many ways are a symbolic representation of The United States at the time. The odds are stacked against them. They have been dealt a raw hand, but somehow they muster the strength to forge ahead. This strength becomes the rallying force in the story and it became a rallying force for the people living during the great depression. Seabiscuit has an all star cast, including Tobey Maguire, Jeff Bridges, and William H. Macy, but the real star of the movie is the true story it is based upon. If you havent seen Seabiscuit, I highly recommend getting this DVD. I promise it will be a ride around the track you wont want to stop. |
