How do you choose? Well, my first two articles covered the secrets of how vibrators work and what they are made out of. This article concentrates on what to look for in size, shape and colour, batteries and power controllers. 1) What types of vibrator can you buy? Vibrators come in a variety of types. There are simple vibrators, often called classic vibrators that can be used to stimulate various erogenous zones particularly (for women) the clitoris and vagina - but you can only stimulate one area at a time. Others are specifically designed for one area such as the clitoris. Yet others are shaped to make g spot stimulation easier. Some, such as the so called rabbit style vibrators, are designed to stimulate the vagina and clitoris at the same time. In this article I wont cover anal toys, butterfly/harness vibrating toys or vibrating eggs. If these intrigue you look at the resources section for information. Classic vibrators are normally smooth, slightly rippled or sometimes to some degree penis shaped. These are very good for stimulating one area at a time. Some women like a hard smooth surface -- others prefer a texture and or a soft (or penis like) feel. Vibrators in the softer jelly like rubbers are often quieter than the hard plastic vibrators although there is one quiet one called the Silencer. Some of these single spot stimulators are curved in shape to help find the g spot. Rabbit vibrators are designed to provided vaginal vibrations and vaginal stroking/massage as well as stimulation of your clitoris. The clitoris stimulator often is shaped like a rabbit (hence the name) and the long ears tend to emphasise the vibrations providing intense stimulation. Depending on the design these three types of stimulation can often be controlled independently. The rabbit style vibrator is very popular, but quite a few women find two areas being subject to vibration and the shaft squirming inside too much to enjoy -- especially as with three motors these sex toys tend to be rather noisy. If you want something that is bit more relaxing and which allows you to concentrate on the stimulation and for you to direct the stimulation precisely, then a the classic type vibrator is probably best. It will also probably last better. 2) What about Vibrator Sizes? There seem to be a hugh range in vibrators sizes available -- why it that?. Well, some of it is to do with the marketing which is often aimed at men to encourage them to buy one for their partner. Somehow men often think bigger is better (heard that before?). Of course there are some women who do like penetration with large objects. But most women would find the larger sizes uncomfortable enough to stop them having an orgasm. Some of the longest vibrators are too long to be inserted fully without causing internal injury! However if the idea of a large vibrator (perhaps pretending it is a really large cock) turns you on, just make sure it is not too large. Small vibrators can be just as powerful as large ones, so for external use they are just as good. They are also easier to store in, say, a handbag. For mixed internal and external use just choose one that is medium sized, at least for a start. 3) Batteries and Power Controllers -- do they matter? A vibrator needs power. Although there are a few mains powered vibrators, the vast majority are powered by batteries. Older vibrators had less efficient motors so often quite large batteries were necessary. Large batteries contained within the vibrator make it rather heavy and awkward to use. Because of this many of these had external battery holders usually combined with a power controller. Nowadays vibrators usually use two or four AA sized batteries in the handle of the vibrator. Remote controlled vibrators usually use other batteries - but these are usually not the classic or rabbit type vibrator. Vibrators do consume a lot of power especially if they have moving sections (like many rabbit style vibrators do). To provide power for a sufficiently long time the high capacity of alkaline batteries are recommended despite their higher cost. Rechargable batteries can also be used and even with the cost of the charger, these work out much cheaper in a short time. Power controllers are often incorporated into the battery case or vibrator handle. They vary from the simple on/off switch, through to a two or three position switch to select power levels to electronic controllers that provide complex patterns of escalating and pulsating patterns. These electronic controllers can be very effective and many people love them. Luckily you can normally select a static level of power as well as the changing patterns, since sometimes you need a static level to be able to concentrate properly on getting to orgasm. Vibrators with one of these modern controllers dont usually cost much more than vibrators with a simple controller, so it is worth going for one of those.
