International tourism now is the biggest industry in the world.
Unfortunately, it creates tension rather than understanding between the peoples from different cultures.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with the above opinion?
ANS:
I both disagree and agree with this opinionated statement due to the fact that tourism is a huge industry with many layers and has many players involved.
The most obvious and global problem that faces any tourist that supports my agreement with the said and stated opinion is that generally tourists are seen as having enough money to travel so therefore they must have enough money to pay premium prices. The high prices tourists pay is also due to the fact that the full time residents of the hosting country, city, town etc etc feel quite confident that tourists are generally naive and ill informed of the true price of life in their locale. In some countries it is known that native businessmen of some under-developed countries have come to the rather racist understanding belief that as a rule foreigners should pay at least fifty percent and upwards more than the locals of the locale. Because tourists are by rule, foreign to the locale and come from more developed regions of the country and from other further developed countries. It’s kind of like a high VAT rate enforced by prejudice and greed with the victims being chosen by simple characteristics e.g. Skin colour, build, facial bone structure, accent etc etc this goes for both foreign tourists and native tourists whilst on touring. The opinion that tourism breeds contemptuous tension in this way I agree for once the tourist realizes the fraudulent abuse taking place, love is lost from the tourists heart as purchases made in developing country open air markets become a battle to pay less than you would do at home, because your not a local!
From another perspective I would have to disagree with regards to certain natives in certain areas that would not be able to support themselves if it wasn’t for the existence of tourism. Especially if these people treat the tourists without negative prejudice.
In conclusion, I would have to say in a form of re-iteration that there are two sides to every coin, so I evenly agree and disagree.
